Mining for sulfur inside a volcano
One way to figure out what jobs are the best, is to make list of the worst jobs. This would be one for the worst jobs list.

Why Is Work so Boring?
Monotony. Lack of variety. Same thing. Day after day. Boring.

So in an attempt to make more things that we think will make us happy we must sacrifice a certain amount of happiness and do a job that makes unhappy. Sounds like a catch 22 if there ever was one.

surfsteve: Except the worst part of the whole deal is that the hardest and most boring jobs also tend to be the lowest paid jobs. I never quite figured out how that worked, but some people have dream jobs where they make good money and have fun doing it. Life just ain't fair sometimes, I guess.

CrustyOldFart: I agree with you to some extent, but menial labor is not paid well because it requires little training and so therefore there is a surplus of people capable of doing the work. Highly skilled individuals get paid more even though the work they do may be more enjoyable and less strenuous and less tedious. Communism is an attempt to answer this apparent discrepancy, but for the most part such principles are rejected in the USA.

BoraxBill: Most boring jobs are those that require the least intelligence and training, which is exactly why one should strive to learn as much as possible while in school. As time goes on, most boring jobs will eventually no longer require humans since robotics can perform simple, repetitive tasks. This will put a lot of people out of work and those people are going to complain a lot and so although they may like to complain about the work they are currently doing, they'll complain even more when they are no longer needed. You can count on that!

Septic System Technician
I've always thought that pumping out septic systems would be one of the worst jobs out there, but at least it's honest work!
