Thinking logically would solve a lot of humanity's problems. The hitch there is that most humans are logic impaired. Emotional thinking results in a lot of stupid decisions being made.

Mom warns about white supremacists recruiting teens online
The lady is a little off her rocker, but someone in the comments left the following suggestion which I think has merit or at least sounds interesting:

Military investigating possible ‘white power’ hand gesture flashed by cadets l ABC News :smack:
Moral panic, excessive political correctness, or just plain stupid, I don't know, but it's definitely dysfunctional to obsess over something as stupid as this!

mrgreen: Why waste time investigating something like this? It's such a non-issue that it's silly that anyone would be at all triggered by this. Some people worry over the stupidest things sometimes!

Forbidden Parenting
Moral panics are a result of people exaggerating certain dangers while under-estimating other dangers. Keeping things in proper perspective is important. Unfortunately, most of the time the media doesn't help although this particular news clip is an exception.

Crime is way down compared to even two decades ago, but most of the media does its best to make it seem that we live in dangerous times. If kids are kidnapped or molested it's usually by a family member. Strangers almost never commit these crimes. Crime statistics put stranger abductions and sexual assaults against children at less than three percent of the total! Most people have a badly distorted sense of reality when it comes to the actual facts.

shadylady: The other thing that the media likes to hype which is also extremely rare is the internet predator myth. Although there have been isolated cases which can be mislabeled as internet predator situations, the truth is that the chances of a stranger discovering a child to target online and then traveling great distances to abduct the child are so low that it's a complete waste of time to spend much if any time thinking about such a thing. But in our dysfunctional society it should come as no surprise that laws have been made, bills have been passed, and crime taskforces formed to deal with this imaginary problem! Like shadylady said, it is far, far, far more likely that a family member will abduct or molest a child than some stranger lurking on the internet. The chances that a family member will do something like this is probably about one in forty whereas the chances of some stranger doing something like this is more like one in four-hundred-thousand!

Politicians like imaginary problems. They're the easiest to appear to be doing something about.

Not only that, but it's easy to exaggerate the extent of imaginary problems. You can turn them into anything you want them to be!

Idiots React to Coronavirus
The interesting thing about moral panics is that during such panics people over-react to things which don't really matter and they under-react to things which really do matter. Hence the denial regarding coronavirus. In fact, in the future people will look back and realize how political correctness resulted in many, many, many unnecessary deaths.
