shadylady: The other thing that the media likes to hype which is also extremely rare is the internet predator myth. Although there have been isolated cases which can be mislabeled as internet predator situations, the truth is that the chances of a stranger discovering a child to target online and then traveling great distances to abduct the child are so low that it's a complete waste of time to spend much if any time thinking about such a thing. But in our dysfunctional society it should come as no surprise that laws have been made, bills have been passed, and crime taskforces formed to deal with this imaginary problem! Like shadylady said, it is far, far, far more likely that a family member will abduct or molest a child than some stranger lurking on the internet. The chances that a family member will do something like this is probably about one in forty whereas the chances of some stranger doing something like this is more like one in four-hundred-thousand!
