Power of Siberia: Russia, China launch construction of world's biggest gas pipeline
The sanctions imposed by the USA against Russia were meant to isolate Russia economically. They seem to have had the opposite effect. Russia has expanded it's relationship with China and the other BRICS countries and people in Europe have begun to question whether they might be better off aligning with Russia and cutting back on their economic dependence on the USA. Thus, the USA may have isolated itself from the world community in it's ill-conceived attempt to punish Russia. That's what we get for electing clueless idiots into office!

BRICS
From WikiPedia:
BRICS is the acronym for an association of five major emerging national economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The grouping was originally known as "BRIC" before the inclusion of South Africa in 2010. The BRICS members are all developing or newly industrialised countries, but they are distinguished by their large, fast-growing economies and significant influence on regional and global affairs; all five are G-20 members.

History:
The foreign ministers of the initial four BRIC states (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) met in New York City in September 2006, beginning a series of high-level meetings. A full-scale diplomatic meeting was held in Yekaterinburg, Russia, on 16 May 2008.

It was dumb to use sanctions against Russia. It was predictable that such a tactic would backfire.

Looks like the economic sanctions are backfiring. But that's what happens when clueless leaders are in charge. It's really weird when you have more respect for the leader of the country that your country recognizes as its enemy, than for the leaders of your own country. But that seems to be how things are going at this time. I wouldn't be surprised if Putin beat Obama in a popularity poll taken here in the USA.

They say that the body count in Ukraine is up to over 2600 and they want to blame it on Russia, but everything I have read indicates that the first shot in this civil war was fired by Poroshenko's side of the dispute and that they are responsible for almost all of the civilian deaths. It seems that the media is pushing a narative that the victims are the perpetrators and vice versa.

jarhead: You're joking, right? Either that or you're just trolling. Although good ole Ronald Reagan got a lot of applause by calling Russia an Evil Empire, the USA has behaved more like an Evil Empire in recent decades. It's hard to think of anything that's happened since Vietnam that's more evil than the invasion of Iraq.

Ukraine Crisis | Obama is giving a hint to Russia regarding Alaska | English Subtitles
Obama had a bad case of foot-in-mouth disease this last week! This is pretty funny. Such sarcasm could not be sustained like this even by Jon Stewart. Obama made a rather stupid statement this last week in which he spoke of Russia aspiring to regain territories lost in the 19th century. The only territories "lost" by Russia during that time were territories it sold in North America to the USA. Of course, perhaps Obama was just wishfully thinking that he'd be able to get Russia to take Sarah Palin off our hands. It would be funny to see Palin wind up as a member of the Duma. But then again, with all this talk of WWIII, I think sending Palin to Russia would count as a serious act of aggression which might be cause for retaliation!

Unfortunately YouTube terminated the account from which this video was posted and so the video is no longer available. But there is a transcript. The sarcasm is not as clear in print as it was with the voice of the narrator.
I.A.Romanov, Dr. of Sociology, Deputy Director, Russian Institute of Strategic Research
Barak Obama, the president of the USA, made a number of surprising statements at the press conference in Tallinn.
He addressed to our State via the Estonian public sphere at this press conference.
He made the following statement:
Russia should not achieve its former grandeur through gaining territories lost in the 19th century.
It was only Alaska that we lost in the 19th century.
And today, president Obama reminds us about this.
He seems to suggest that we should take notice of the territories lost.
There is a peaceful and constructive message in his appeal.
We are getting the impression that Obama is ready to conduct a dialogue with Russia about the restitution of Alaska to Russia
He only asks we should not behave destructively in connection with this.
He suggests that we should communicate in a diplomatic language.
Certainly, that is more than acceptable for us.
Indeed, the democracy principles must be clearly observed.
And a sort of referendum might be held
to discuss the issue of Alaska seceding from the USA.
And here, the whole potential of human right activists must be involved.
So far, there is an offer to discuss this issue, it's quite a lot, after all.
Certainly, we have to ponder what was the motivation for president Obama to invite us for the dialogue about the territories lost in the 19th century.
In spite of the apparent power of the USA, many experts state today:
The situation in the USA is the most difficult than ever before.
A crisis is just about to happen the result of which will be the disappearance of the USA as a united State.
It will simply disintegrate into separate states.
Naturally, the USA President himself along with the White House Administration cannot but understand this.
The talk about the lands lost by Russia is not a casual talk.
In my opinion, this is a balanced phrase and a weighted thought,
which might have been based on the fact that the USA are ready now to get rid of some territories
that are difficult to support financially.
He is addressing to Russia.
He is not addressing to Estonia and does not suggest that the Estonians should take Alaska.
He is addressing to Russia since Russia has got a very successful experience in managing and developing lands.
We know how the USA President is worried about the destiny of small-numbered peoples.
We know very well how the Indians in the USA live.
So far, their life is not so fine. They live in reservations.
However, Obama is worried about the situation.
Possibly, Obama who is worried about the destiny of the Indians addresses to Russia today:
"Take back your territories!"
"Not for the grandeur, of course! For working."
"Take back Alaska! To live with you will be better for people."
"That's why we're addressing to you, esteemed leaders of Russia, dear citizens of Russian Federation."
Bravo! One is almost tempted to say: Bravo, Barack Obama!

desertrat: I checked out the video regarding Alaska on YouTube and was not surprised to see a few comments from people who did not realize that the guy was being sarcastic. Probably most people in the USA didn't hear about the president's little mistake.

As anyone paying attention can see, this thread, started in 2014, is now, once again, extremely relevant. Actually it's relevance never really diminished, but the turning point has been reached and BRICS, accounting for about one-third of the world's economy, is pulling it's support for the dollar. This could be catastrophic for the USA, but maybe only a setback, depending on how things play out over the next several years.

Anyone surprised by all the support Russia is getting from certain countries is probably not aware of the economic alliance known as BRICS
Brazil - Russia - India - China - South Africa
And now with the addition of Saudi Arabia it's known as BRICS+
