Prosecutors aren't supposed to make criminal law on the fly: McCarthy
The parents definitely did a lot of dumb things and created the circumstances where their son was able to commit this crime, but Michigan does not have a law requiring that firearms be locked up and secured at all times when they aren't in use. So, the prosecutors are over-charging the parents in this case to make a political statement which will probably result in a law requiring that firearms be kept under lock and key. What I find astounding is that the school allowed the kid to go back to class after what he drew on the desk and so what about the school? Weren't employees negligent too?
