How rescued hiker survived days in the wilderness
Sounds like the guy was out of shape and hiked out a bit too far and was desperate for a shortcut on the return trip to his car.

Recently two teens and an eleven-year-old girl were swept away by the Kern River.
According to KCSO, since 2000, 96 people have perished in the Kern River in Kern County. Kern County statistics show 52 were from the local area, while 39 were from out of town

At least six people have died this summer in the Kern River. 2017 was a big year with fifteen deaths and 2011 was also big with eleven deaths. The total since 1968 is over 300. It may not be the widest, deepest, or most amazing river in the world, but it definitely kills its share of people!

It's not a video game. If you fall, you die.

Hiker survives 40 hours stranded in wilderness
This is like an advertisement for a satellite communication device. There are several available and they are small, light, and no problem to carry. It's about a $300 initial investment and then something like $15/mo after that. This guy could have been bitten by a rattlesnake or he could have suffered any of dozens of possible injuries. It might be a one in a thousand kind of situation, but an emergency signalling device is worth the cost as far as I'm concerned.

Climber swept to death in Death Valley rockslide
A 38-year-old guy from Los Angeles died over the weekend in a rope climbing accident.
Ibershoff and six friends, all “very experienced" canyoneers, were descending Deimos Canyon using a steep technical route when he apparently stepped on a rock that moved, triggering a slide that swept him past two companions and over a 95-foot-tall dry fall.

‘Ridiculous’ number of missing kids in Oregon
Statistically speaking there is nothing "ridiculous" discussed in this video, but they spin things to accentuate anomalies and peculiarities so as to make circumstances seem more mysterious than is justified by the actual facts.
