surfsteve: I think what he meant was that sometimes salt cedars start growing around springs up in the canyons in the area and that when that happens they displace native plants. The same is true of mesquites and a few other garden plants. Birds can carry their seeds out into wilderness areas and the plants can take over and crowd out natives. As for in town, I completely agree with you. People should do something to beautify the town and I salute those who keep plants growing in their yards.
