surfsteve: I think what he meant was that sometimes salt cedars start growing around springs up in the canyons in the area and that when that happens they displace native plants. The same is true of mesquites and a few other garden plants. Birds can carry their seeds out into wilderness areas and the plants can take over and crowd out natives. As for in town, I completely agree with you. People should do something to beautify the town and I salute those who keep plants growing in their yards.

surfsteve: Have YOU looked around? Once you get up into the canyons there are a lot of plants. Just look on the DVPLANTS.COM website and you'll see that there are hundreds of different plants growing in this valley. Maybe only a couple dozen on the valley floor, but as soon as you get up into the canyons there are lots of interesting plants to see.

wildrose: That's assuming that donkeys haven't munched them all down. I've seen springs in this area denuded of vegetation thanks to ravenous donkeys. That's why it's important to keep the donkey population in check. The same goes for wild horses.

deathvalleyjake: That's right. It's fun to see donkeys wandering around, but they do a lot of damage. The novelty of donkeys wears off real fast once you realize what they do to native vegetation!

Bloom Of Non-Native Plants Could Become Dangerous During Fire Season
The word BLOOM in the title doesn't seem quite right, but other than that this is a great video.

twister: You're right. Probably SPREAD instead of BLOOM would have been more appropriate. Either way the main points made in the video are still valid, but a more accurate title would have been an improvement.

Do you have invasive plants in your yard?
In most places these plants get out of control, but in the desert they need help just to survive!

Beware of Plant! Myrtle Spurge
It's an attractive plant, but it can be dangerous. It's also called donkey tail and it can be invasive, so much so that it is illegal to grow it in some states.
