This probably won't do anything for Trona residents, but maybe we'll get lucky and out internet speed will get a boost here too.
Ort said, “Our plan is to work our way into Ridgecrest by December.” He said following that, the fiber cable will go along Highway 395 in Inyo County. Ort said work in Inyo should go fairly fast since there are not heavy rocks alongside most of the highway. Ort called the current construction a “two directional effort.” He repeated that Praxis has the option that if construction is snowed out in Mono, they will concentrate on southern areas.

It would be nice if someone would do something to improve internet service in Trona!
BTW, there's a Digital 395 website!

Digital 395 pushing on to Inyo County
Interesting info relevant to people living in remote locations like Darwin and Homewood Canyon. :pac:
In areas like Kern River Valley and remote areas just beyond Trona, she said patience was recommended. However there are regions that may not see cable networks due to sheer remoteness, like Homewood Canyon in Inyo County. A satellite launched in July by EchoStar-owned HughesNet Gen4 would increase any satellite Internet access in Homewood Canyon's from 1 megabit per second to 5 megabits per second.
"That's really good news, satellite Internet for people in a rural area that will never be connected by somebody."

Digital 395 set to break ground in next month
Progress being made. Hopefully this will in some way improve service here in Trona!
Digital 395 is rapidly gaining traction from both ends of the state and is slated to end up breaking ground in Ridgecrest and China Lake in the next few weeks. The project will service Sierra Nevada communities in San Bernardino, Kern, Inyo and Mono counties in California, six Native American reservations, and in Nevada to Carson City. From there it will eventually connect to Reno.

Digital 395 breaks ground in Ridgecrest
Still haven't heard anything definitive as to whether or not this will do anything for Trona!
The fiber optic cable on China Lake Boulevard would act as the main cord, with additional cables branching off in a spider web toward other public services. Ort said that was the third step.
He said traffic impact would likely be minimal since the contractors employ a horizontal boring technique to run the fibers from one end to another, with minimal trench cutting involved.
Ort estimated everything would be wrapped up in the Ridgecrest area by the end of February at the latest. He added that with some projects finishing up in Barstow, testing the cable would begin soon.

Digital 395 making serious progress
Hopefully they send a link over our way. We could use the boost in speed!
The project will connect the rural under-served Eastern Sierra Nevada communities that have limited or no high-speed Internet access. It has the potential to deliver data to public facilities at a rate of between 10 and 100 megabits per second. Digital 395 will eventually connect from Carson City, Nev. in the north to Barstow in the south, running the trajectory of U.S. Highway 395 and California Highway 58.

Digital 395 project steaming ahead
Amazing potential! Incredible bandwidth!!! :pac:
The network itself has astounding potential, he said, based on tests performed throughout the construction. Digital 395 is a 432-strand optic fiber cable network. “Using today’s electronics that we’re installing, it showed up as 150 gigabits and that was only on two strands of fiber,” he said. “If we were going to turn up the entire cable, the capacity of that would be 1.28 petabits. What you guys are getting in your homes today are megabits.”

Digital 395 nearing completion in town :talk:
The more bandwidth the better is what I hear! Hopefully it makes web surfing faster and more reliable for everyone!!!
The entire network is made up of a 432-strand optic fiber cable network, though Ort said the project would only fire up four strands once the project is fully operational – two in each direction at a 150-gigabit capacity.

Digital 395 working on environmental issues for Inyo National Forest construction
Despite delays the project is supposed to be completed by July 31. It's good to see that upgrading telecommunications infrastructure is being prioritized. Our country has fallen behind most other modern countries in this area!
The 583-mile-long Digital 395 Middle Mile Project is one of the largest public communications and broadband projects in modern history. Its mission is to bring updated broadband access to the Eastern Sierra communities between Barstow and Reno, Nev., an area long considered underserved or unserved.
