Atlanta Schools Cheating Scandal: Ex-Superintendent, 34 Teachers Accused in Cheating Scandal
The real problem here is No Child Left Behind. It created an atmosphere where some people felt that they had to cheat in order to keep their jobs. Test scores are not a good indicator of how good of a job a teacher is doing. No Child Left Behind is the problem and fortunately it's been partially dismantled, but there is still work to be done to undo the damage done. The other white elephant in the room is merit pay. That's a very bad idea and it seems that NCLB and merit pay are at the heart of this scandal. The real culprits here are the politicians who designed a system based on high pressure testing and merit pay. These politicians are the ones who should be held accountable for this fiasco!

Kind of a short, sketchy article, but I guess there wasn't much to write about.
Career fields represented include law enforcement, paramedic and emergency medical technician, undertaking, law, business, utilities, veterinarian and video-game design.

1 in 9 middle and high schoolers suspended during school year
I know a lot of people who never got suspended even once. That probably means that there are a few kids who get suspended pretty often. White, blacks, hispanics, and Native Americans are suspended more often now than they were in the early 1970s. The only ethnic group that is suspended less often now than then are Asians.

The report highlighted racial disparities in suspensions, an issue the U.S. Education Department is investigating in several school districts, including Los Angeles. A quarter of black students in middle and high school were suspended during the year, compared with 7.1 percent of white students. One in 3 black middle school males was suspended at least once, the report found.

Ron Paul Curriculum Takes Swing At Public Education, Offers Hand To Homeschoolers
All the good little cultists across this country homeschool their kids (or send them to religious schools) and my understanding is that Ridgecrest has a much higher rate of homeschooling (and religious schooling) than most of the rest of California. Anyone else notice something a little strange about Ridgecrest in regards to religiosity? There are a lot of religious nuts over there!
The Chronicle, using numbers from the National Center for Education Statistics, notes that Paul is likely to benefit from a thriving homeschooling movement that expanded from 850,000 kids in 1999 to 1.5 million in 2007.

Homeschoolers consistently score higher than those in public education systems across the board. Minorities that were homeschooled score even higher compared to their counterparts from the public education system. Homeschooling also saves the government over 5000 dollars per year, per student.

Bogus misinformation! It's obvious that the HSLDA exists for the sole purpose of PROMOTING home schooling and so their fake research is completely meaningless since all they did was cook up fake statistics to "prove" their point. This is so obvious that it's unbelieveable that anyone would be dumb enough to take them seriously!

Seems like the least you could do is post some of your own cooked statistics to “prove” your point. The public school system is a joke. No child left behind in reality means holding the rest of the students back and teaching to the level of the slowest learner. Instead of teaching by age groups they should be teaching each student based upon their ability. Schools are nothing more than babysitting, brainwashing factories.

NCLB was designed by conservative politicians to make it appear that public schools are failing so that arguments could be made in support of private schools. As for your comments regarding "brainwashing factories" private schools would be one hundred times worse. Regarding home schooling, it is very difficult to make a meaningful comparison between traditional schools and home schools due to the huge variety of home school approaches. Usually advocates for home schooling use the most successful home schoolers (highly intelligent kids, highly motivated and dedicated parents with lots of time to spend with just two or three kids, well-organized curriculum) and compare them to the entire spectrum of public school students (including special ed., English learners, emotionally disturbed, etc.). It's not a valid comparison and so I'm with MrFish on this one. As for your demand that we take the time to go back and find our sources, you must think we have all the time in the world to devote to quick posts on a message board!

That's absurd. Privatization of schools is virtually no different than private prisons. That would be like going out of the frying pan and into the fire and has nothing to do with homeschooling.

You are slanting facts when you claim home schoolers can't be compared to the public education system. Many parents of retarded children choose to home school to keep their kids from being bullied, yet these kids are included in the statistics showing that home schooled students out perform publicly schooled children in all areas. The only possible exception that comes to mind is publicly schooled kids excel at joining a gang or getting involved with drugs. I didn't demand you do anything. I only said it was the least you guys could do other than shoot off your mouths and change the subject to privatization. Home schooled kids excel in all areas of education. The reason you don't have enough time is because all the time in the world wouldn't prove otherwise.
