And how are you supposed to tell kids to make sure their butts are clean before they swim without sounding inappropriate?

Electroshock Therapy Actually Helps People Learn Math?
We probably won't see kids hooked up to electrical stimulators any time in the near future, but this is an interesting discussion of brain science. Also Obama's brain mapping initiative gets mentioned a couple times as well as a few other interesting topics.

High school romance ends in arrest
Why is it that laws that are supposed to protect children always seem to victimize children?

Young Fashion 'Bully' Forced to Wear Thrift Shop Clothes By Mom: Punishment Stirs 'Shaming' Debate
I think this strategy could have backfired, but in this case with the way the parents handled things and the way the girl understood the punishment it worked out well. But with another girl things might have been quite different. One size fits all doesn't work and you need to realize that different people react differently and that there can be unintended consequences. One of the commentators tried to point out that classmates could have sided with the girl being punished and blamed the punishment on the girl who was the victim of the original bullying and that they could have all ganged up and made things worse for the victim. That is one possible outcome in this situation, but luckily things didn't go that way.

Does the 'Masturbate' Yearbook Pranker Deserve Criminal Charges?
Dumbest high school prank ever? Maybe not, but felony charges may be made! The cost of reprinting the school yearbook would have been $41,000.

Assembly passes testing bill, AB 484 :talk:
The standardized testing system in place under NCLB practically forced schools to offer a dumbed-down curriculum in order to get students to perform well on the tests created by greedy companies pulling strings behind the scenes. It was all about undermining the effectiveness of public education in order to push privatization down our throats. Hopefully this reform will improve the situation! According to Jody Rummer (superintendent of Sierra Sands):
"Sierra Sands Unified School District has implemented a three-year transition plan to move students from the current California State Standards and STAR assessments to the new Common Core and Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium," she said. "Included in this transition plan are extensive professional development, reviews, adoptions and purchases of equipment, supplies and instructional materials, strategic implementations of new standards, and communication with parents and the community regarding the stages to this transition.
