Pair sentenced in Trona murder case
At least these two will be behind bars for a while, but most likely not near long enough!
San Bernardino Superior Court Judge John Gibson sentenced Jesus Anthony Evans to 25 years to life and Jana Mason to a total of nine years in prison, according to court records. The judge gave both defendants credit of 131 days for time served (114 actual + 17 good behavior). Evans pleaded no contest earlier this month to murder, and Mason pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter in connection with the alleged shooting of 31-year-old Trona resident Aaron Lee Whitbey in October 2012.

Trona begins planning centennial celebration :talk:
Sounds like a fun day for history buffs. There's even a Facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Trona-Centennial-Celebration
(The link doesn't work, but that's what's printed in the article.)
Here's a link that works:

The community of Trona was founded March 27, 1914. In honor of the occasion, planning is under way for the community's 100th birthday. Reporting to the Searles Valley Community Services Council Wednesday, the 99th anniversary, Russ Kaldenberg said the celebration is scheduled for March 28-30, 2014.

Wow. I missed this the first time around. I heard that the guys wife that they shot was in fear for her life every day that her husband was going to kill her. He was also implicated in several burglaries around town including a few stores. I wonder what they did for good behavior. Shoot the guy? Good riddance to all of them! We don't need those kind of people in our town.

House Demolition
According to what was written in the latest school board meeting report there are several houses that are being taken down. It would have been nice if this article had listed the locations where the houses are being removed from. Otherwise the removal of potentially dangerous and definitely ugly abandoned houses is a good thing.
Armed with a $65,000 allotment from the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, Trona Care began the demolition Monday of that home and several other Trona-area homes that were either burned or dilapidated.

SBSO in Trona hooked to local agencies
The article was mostly about a communications system which will make it possible for local deputies to communicate directly with a number of agencies, but there was also this:
Cpl. Ryan Smith said there was a burglary earlier this month in which six guns were stolen. “If anyone hears anything about any missing firearms, please report that as soon as possible,” he said. “The missing firearms are a big priority for us.”

Rodeo comes back to Lone Pine
Which brings up the question: Why don't Trona got a rodeo competition?!!
Come on Down! Let’s bring back the Cowboy Tradition that inspired our generation and NOW can inspire our younger generation in OUR COMMUNITY to keep ALIVE and STRONG the values of Western Heritage and rekindle good family fun for young and old.

It looks a lot better with some of the burned down homes gone. How many of them are they planning to do? All of them?

Not sure if this answers your question, but this is from the April 11th School Board Meeting thread:
1. During board member comments Trisha Funke shared information regarding some upcoming events sponsored by TronaCare. Five abandoned house demolitions are planned in the near future, with three or four more following in a month. Also there is a clean up scheduled for this Saturday (April 13). On top of that a couple properties will be taken down by hand late in May. If my count is correct, a total of ten or eleven abandoned houses will be dispensed with during the next couple months.

Trona dedicates tree to lifelong resident
Very sad news...
The Trona Senior Citizens Center was the setting for the dedication of a tree in memory of lifelong resident Keith Sayre Jr., who passed away last month at the age of 57.
