TJUSD School Board Meeting - November 08, 2012
The board meeting got off to a late start this evening. Although the open session was scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., the meeting didn't begin until after 7:30 p.m. due to a volleyball playoff game which was won by Trona.

1. Board Member Comments: Bob Wilhelm noted $1M has been received for the first three months of royalty payments so far this fiscal year. This is more than the projected royalty revenue for the full year.

2. TCEA Contract Negotiations - The public was informed of the issues that will be discussed during contract negotiations between the district and the classified union. These issues include wages, monthly dues deductions, job descriptions, health and welfare benefits, work hours, and the evaluation process.

3. Superintendent's Report - David Olney stated that district enrollment increased by one student since last month. Olney also presented certificates of appreciation to the two out-going board members (Bob Wilhelm and Gary Hess).

4. Royalties Bill - Hess asked about the royalties bill which is in congress. Olney stated that although nothing is for certain, it appears that at this time it will not pass.

5. Bus Cameras - Deanna Garrison asked about bus cameras. Olney reported that they have been ordered and that they will be installed as soon as they are received.

6. WASC Report - Mary Wilhelm presented information on progress made regarding WASC (accreditation) goals. She reviewed the goals which had to do with academic achievement, student motivation, and parent involvement and presented data showing progress being made in each area. The next WASC visitation is scheduled for 2015, but a lot must be done in preparation for this visit.

7. FUND 13 - Olney explained revisions being made to simplify the food service financial accounting system. These revisions were suggested by the county and are intended to make the financial accounting process as it pertains to the cafeteria more efficient.

8. Uniform Complaint Procedures - As required as a result of the passage of AB 9 (Seth's Law) board policy regarding the uniform complaint procedure had to be updated to include "harassment, intimidation, and bullying" along with existing language.

9. FUTURE MEETINGS:
Board Workshop (Saturday, Dec 08, 2012, Open Session 9 a.m.)
Organizational Meeting (new board members sworn in) (Thursday, Dec 13, Open Session 6 p.m.)

A new kind of "watchdog journalism" :nono:
This lady is a horrible person. She's interfering in the private lives of private citizens. It's ok for her to write a story about racism on Twitter, but reporting these kids to their schools is going way too far. She makes a lot of cheap excuses for her behavior, but it's obvious she exploited a situation to get attention!

Creationism in Public School Books in Louisiana
Mixing religion and science is about the dumbest thing possible. This should never happen in a public school. At a church school you can feed children all the misinformation you want, but a massive lawsuit should be filed to block this incredibly stupid textbook from being used in any public school!!! Public funds should not be used to subsidize religion or to help spread erroneous religious beliefs!

Trona won a playoff game in volleyball! :talk:
Any information on when and where the next game will be held?

Tax The Rich
Here's the original video. It runs about eight minutes long. This is probably an illegal post since it's not posted by the organization that created it, but for now it is available here. I couldn't find it anywhere else. I must say that it provides a concise and accurate assessment of the situation we currently find ourselves in.

Next game will be Saturday at either 2:00 or 7:00 VS Riverside Christian. We don't know where we are playing a yet. They won this game after earning a bye in the first round. They went undefeated in league, thus earning league champs, and now are in the final 8 (quarterfinals) with decent shot of going to the semi finals.

Open Letter to the President: Physics Education
Not much chance of this happening in the USA. Religious leaders will block it every step of the way!

Teacher to Students: Democrats Don't Go To Heaven
A popular teacher in a convervative community bullies liberal students. Not surprising, but quite immature. It's the old 1950's mindset that everyone has to worship god, country, and football!

Trona High students glimpse the blades of Mercy
This must have been a fun event for the students!
Trona High School first-responder regional occupation program students got an up-close and hands-on look at a Mercy Air medical-evacuation helicopter Wednesday when the helicopter crew visited the San Bernardino Fire Department station in Trona.
