tronagirl: I'm not convinced that this is good since it'll make it easier for growers to produce non-organic crops and claim that they're organic. Organic produce sells at a higher price and when there's money to be made... people cheat.

Help Us End Food Waste | HuffPost #Reclaim
It's obvious that a surplus is better than a shortage and there are many uncontrollable variables involved which need to be taken into account. Therefore growing precisely what is needed at any given time is not possible and efforts to do so would be extremely inflationary (due to recurring shortages). The biggest expenditure, however, when it comes to food is the cost of transporting it to wherever it needs to go. It's not surprising that the HuffPo failed to mention this little issue. It's typical for them to hype an issue as a major problem without thinking through the implications.

Why Do We Waste $1 Trillion Of Food A Year?
This "ugly food" thing is getting kind of old. I've seen at least a dozen videos on the topic and lots of little articles on the internet. It's one of those hipster concerns that amounts to nothing, but which they like to inflate in significance as a way to show other hipsters how hip they are.
