Whitney Portal Road Reconstruction Planned for 2016
Don't say they didn't give you any warning. Not that will make you feel any better if you get held up on your way up to the portal area.
“There is no way to complete this project without having a significant impact on visitors to the Whitney Portal area,” said Ed Armenta, Forest Supervisor. “The road has only one ingress/egress and the already limited parking will be much reduced. Accessing the area may be, at times, difficult and frustrating. Your planning and patience will help complete this very important project.”

sandman: Thanks for the warning. Hopefully people planning on heading up that way this summer know what they're getting into. Road maintenance projects can be extremely annoying, but in the case of narrow roads perched on mountainsides they can be even worse! A necessary evil, maybe, but still frustrating.

Residents Return After Blue Cut Fire Evacuations; Nearly 100 Homes Destroyed
Looks like the Cajon Pass is open, but northbound traffic was moving slowly as of the time this video was shot.

A rumor I heard this last week was that they're finally starting to repair the section of road that's been out for the last couple years out in Panamint Valley. Any truth to that rumor? What about Wildrose Road going up to the kilns? Is that still closed?

wildrose: I heard basically that same rumor and I did see some roadwork signs on a trip into Panamint Valley, but I stuck to the southern end of the valley and so I can't say anything about what's happening a few miles up the road from the turnoff to Ballarat.

Crews Working All Hours To Repair Storm Damage In The Cajon Pass
Southbound I-15 is down to one lane for a stretch through the Cajon Pass area. Traveling though the Cajon Pass was already enough of a mess without this additional problem!

Why heavy snow pack is causing problems for Caltrans workers
This is not surprising. A heavy snow year usually results in late opening of mountain passes.

Does anyone know if Sherman Pass (22S05) is open? One page I looked at said no and another said yes. It would be nice to have a definitive answer! I'd expect it not to be open yet, but there's a chance it is.
