James Sel: Congratulations! That was fast. I thought I had a tough one that no one would figure out. Those little chia flowers are pretty cool when you get down and look at them closely!

Chia? Up close they look like little blue faces. It's like they're wearing a worried expression. Either that or they look like scary little ghosts. LOL

So this one has a rather sinister name despite it's rather attractive appearance:

The flowers look a little bit like snapdragon flowers, but the leaves don't look the same. Is it a plant that grows around here?

Okay, I think it's time to reveal the identity of the plant! Inquiring minds want to know! LOL

Here is a picture posted by "Wingman" of the bloom on Eureka Valley. I was implied that it was taken this year. (from PV.com)

James Sel: Nice image! I wonder how many people can guess what plants are shown in the picture. Actually the yellow are a little hard to see, but I'm pretty sure I recognize them. As for the white flowers, they are rather famous in the Death Valley area.

I know that the evening primrose that grows at Eureka Dunes is extremely rare. It's one of those plants they call endemic or something like that. I recall reading about the plant on a display they had set up by the dunes. There's also some kind of grass that grows on the dunes that's pretty rare if I recall correctly.
