Remembering the Granite Mountain Hotshots
These firefighters (nineteen of them in all) were killed fighting a fire in Arizona a few years ago. Summer seems to be the time when we see the largest and most dangerous wildfires. In fact, the Yarnell Hill Fire started as the result of a lightning strike on June 28, 2013.

Record-High Temperature Recorded in Iran
Apparently the airheads at United News International are too lazy to do a basic internet search. The official record is 134 degrees Fahrenheit and the record was set in Death Valley back in 1913.

It was 129 degrees in Iran Thursday
The Weather Underground has no official standing to declare what is and what is not a record. The World Meteorological Organization has that authority. Any other organization can have an opinion, but their opinion is just that... an opinion.

Schaeffer Fire
This fire accounts for the current smoke in the sky above Ridgecrest and Trona. It is located 17 miles north of Kernville. Sherman Pass road is currently closed.
The wildfire started June 24 as the result of a lightning strike and continued to grow while fire crews, including the U.S. Forest Service, took a “confine and contain” approach to combating the blaze. The strategy continues to be to allow the control the fire’s path as it burns available dry brush and wood.

Firefighters battle wildfires across the West :cactus:
This is shaping up to be a hot, miserable summer. Hopefully we'll get a little bit of a break before too long.

TWENTY-FIVE DAYS CONSECUTIVELY OVER ONE HUNDRED
The last day under 100F was June 13 and so the last 17 days of June plus the first 8 days of July gets us to a total of 25 so far with only one day in the next two weeks expected to not reach 100F and the forecast for that day is 99F which means it might break 100F.
