Con artist builds a crooked road in Death Valley
This short article provides some information about the history of Titus Canyon.
The road was built by a con artist who pushed it through the canyon in 1925 to provide access to one of the most notorious mining hoaxes of the century. It was in Titus Canyon that Chauncey C. Julian “salted” the Grapevine Mountains and spawned a town near Bloody Gap he called Leadfield.

Titus Canyon Petroglyphs / Klare Spring Petroglyphs
Here's some interesting information about sites in Death Valley NP. The existence of the petroglyphs at Klare Spring is common knowledge and there are lots of other such sites, but the park doesn't share that info with the public.
The National Park Service has a three-tier system when it comes to the acknowledgement of cultural sites. The first tier is public sites, these sites are advertised and readily available to the public (The Titus Canyon site is the only such site in Death Valley). Second tier sites, are sites that they will acknowledge, only if a ranger is asked about it by name. Third tier sites, are sites that are not to spoken of, and no admission of these sites existence can be made by an employee of the Park Service.

Tight Ass Canyon
Usually friends of mine just call it Tight Ass Canyon. Not only does Titus sound like Tight Ass, but the canyon gets pretty narrow in many places and so there's kind of a double meaning thing going on there!

CrustyOldFart: Tight Ass Canyon works for me. That last part on the drive down gets pretty narrow. It wouldn't take much to block passage through the most narrow sections of the canyon!

dilbert: That's right. I few sticks of dynamite at the right spot could block the narrows easily enough. Not sure why anyone would want to do any such thing, but as a matter of speculation seems like a reasonable topic to me. But don't think that it would be possible to build a dam anywhere that would result in any kind of reservoir. The topography is perfect, but the climate is way too arid for any build up of water to occur.
