Global effort to contain the coronavirus
There's a case in California now. This could turn into a worldwide epidemic. Health officials are extremely concerned.

Worse than SARS. This could turn into an outright pandemic.

Coronavirus: Death toll rises to 81 as China extends holiday
Has anyone recovered from the virus? How long does the sickness last? What is the typical progression of the infection? How severe is it compared to a typical flu?

Novel coronavirus not caused by a genetic mutation: Expert
Scientists in China have also recreated the virus and shared its genome sequence, but not the virus itself. And of even more interest, scientists in labs around the world are recreating the virus with just the genomic sequence info. Although this sounds scary, it also speeds up the process of figuring out how to diagnose and treat infected individuals.

Novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV)
I read somewhere that the mortality rate is under five percent, but more data will need to be collected to see how much more deadly it is than the regular flu.

Vox Declares that Coronavirus Exposes the 'Racist' History of Cleanliness and Hygiene
There is no doubt that bad sanitation practices are an issue in China. It's not even slightly racist to criticize the Chinese government in this regards.

Coronavirus outbreak worsens with 812 fatalities
You sign up for a cruise thinking it's going to be a dream vacation, but then it turns out the ship becomes a prison since you're quarantined due to the coronavirus. You might wind up dead as a result of the virus, but at least the cruise ship company is offering a full refund!

The coronavirus and other outbreaks are hard to contain. Here's why.
Hopefully this doesn't get out of control and turn into some kind of pandemic. Lots of uncertainty about this virus at this point.

The mortality rate on this one keeps getting revised and it seems to be going up last I heard. There is concern that Africa will be hit hard since they do not have modern sanitation systems. Apparently there is a lot of travel between China and many countries in Africa and so the forecast is for a lot of cases in Africa.
