Bob Costas triggers a furor
Slightly long, but good discussion regarding the role of sportscasters when it comes to social issues. One of the commentators insisted that the discussion should have been more about the effect of concussions and domestic violence and less about gun control. All the commentators agreed that it's good to "stir the pot" in the manner that Bob Costas did on this occasion!

Gun control ain't the solution. It's about treating people fair. Guys go nuts when they've been pushed too far. There's something about the vindictive and competitive nature of our culture that pushes people to extremes. That's the problem.

I think you're correct. There is something wrong with a society that allows the killing of hundreds of thousands of people in Iraq and yet puts people in prison for trivial offenses. There is no sense of proportionality. To solve the problem of mass killings (or at least reduce it), it is necessary for our society to take a hard look at how we treat people both within our borders and outside our borders. Hypocrisy is at the root of the problem and we need to hold people accountable for serious crimes (for instance, Bush/Cheney should be put on trial for war crimes) and people should not be imprisoned for trivial/imaginary offenses (for instance, anyone in prison for possession of marijuana should be immediately released, etc.). Consistency and proportionality are important aspects of fairness and our culture is out of control on both!

Morgan, guests fired up over gun control
Typical clueless discussion. Gun laws aren't the solution by a long shot! It's the culture. The culture is disfunctional. Like others have pointed out, we routinely kill large numbers of people without batting an eye in foreign countries without just cause and then get upset when a few people are killed within our borders by someone other than our own military forces. The loss of life is always unfortunate and it's time we treat all life with respect and stop pretending that American lives are worth more than the lives of people who happen to live in other countries!

Ryan Lanza, 24, brother of gunman Adam Lanza, 20, tells authorities that his younger brother is autistic, or has Asperger syndrome and a “personality disorder.” Neighbors described the younger man to ABC as “odd” and displaying characteristics associated with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Link: http://www.mediaite.com/tv/connecticut- ... to-report/

I bet he was on antidepressants.

This also came from the same article:
Lanza may have suffered from developmental disabilities prior to this explosively violent incident.

He also reported that the weapons used in the assault, two semi-automatic pistols and a rifle – which was left in the vehicle outside the school – may have been registerd to Lanza’s mother. Lanza shot and killed his mother in her house in Connecticut before mounting the attack on the school.

It also says his girlfriend is still missing. Not good.

Worldwide reaction to school shooting :steaming:
I don't really give a damn what Bloomberg, Cameron, or Chopra think about this situation. This comment left after this video on YouTube puts things into perspective and tells it like it is!
YouTube User Comment wrote:The world would like the united states to stop murdering their children with drone strikes. Obama, alone, has murdered more than 200 children with drone strikes. Bush's/america's "shock and awe" campaign murdered more than 30,000 children in the first 2 days...with a 100,000+ to follow..and you people have the audacity to whimper about a few dozen children? fuck you. You can't be the Evil Empire and be so thin skinned. Move on already..plenty more brown children left to kill

Reap what you sow?

Drone Strikes: Where Are Obama's Tears For Those Child Victims?
This is exactly the point I made in my previous post to this thread. Glad to see someone with a major audience is talking some sense!

Pier Morgan debating GOA Larry Pratt on gun control after the latest shooting:

I use the term debating loosely. The guy on the left (anti gun nut Pier Morgan) was nearly throwing a temper tantrum throughout the "debate" while at the same time "acting" as moderator.
