These look simple enough and someone who does this kind of thing for a living could probably have some of these structures up in hours. The typical homeowner though would probably have all sorts of hassles. I could see where an enterprising handyman could make good money and not charge an arm and a leg at the same time. Kind of a win-win kind of situation potentially.

Some friends of mine in Ridgecrest will be putting up some simple shade structures late in May to protect some tomatoes, strawberries and peppers they are in the process of planting. I'll probably wind up helping out, but shade in the desert is absolutely necessary for a successful vegetable garden!

A friend in Bakersfield has a nice shade structure in her backyard. She had it built a couple years after moving in several years ago. I was thinking that I'd like to have one in my backyard until I found out that she spent almost five thousand dollars on it. It's real nice and sturdy and definitely more than I could handle as a do-it-yourself project, but at that cost it's more than double what I'd want to spend. Just as well, I don't really need it, but I was surprised by the cost.

How to Build Deck Footings with QUIKRETE® :thumb:
It's been awhile since I built a deck, but this would have been better than the way I did it. My daughter wants me to build a deck for her at her new home in Phoenix. It'll be a great way to spend time with the grand kids and so I might do it. She says the accommodations are comfortable, but all she's willing to pay is for the materials and free room and board, but I'm crazy enough that I might just take the job!

How to Create a Desert Landscape
Simple design, but it looks really nice. It's also something most people could do on their own except for the wet saw part.

Building a Nice Outhouse Part 1, How to Build an Outhouse By Yourself
No backyard is complete without an old-fashioned outhouse. It could be used as a shed and so it wouldn't be purely decorative.
