Parents sign petition to suspend sex ed program
As a retired teacher I would not feel uncomfortable teaching this material to sixth graders if I were back in the classroom, but some of the material (for instance discussion of LGBTQ issues) seems completely unnecessary for sixth graders. I can see why parents might think that the school district is being overly aggressive in presenting this material to kids of this age.

New report finds brain disease in most football players studied
I've always maintained that allowing children to play football should be considered to be a form of child abuse. Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) becomes more and more likely the longer a person plays football over the course of their lifetime.

Porn: Fact or Fiction :roll2:
Here's a sample of the kind of thing they plan on showing to sixth graders. It seems age-appropriate to me, but different parents have very different standards regarding what they want their children to see, which is why there is an opt-out option. BTW, the Amaze Org channel at YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXQZTtGgsy6QHH2fg-OJ_eA/videos) offers a wide assortment of sex ed videos, including videos explaining/promoting transgender issues.

Anyone Can Be a Math Person Once They Know the Best Learning Techniques | Po-Shen Loh
It's probably overly optimistic to say that ANYONE can be a math person, but what this guy says if put into action could increase the percent of the population that could be counted as "Math People!"

Calling all moms! Avoid these back to school mistakes
School doesn't start for at least a few more weeks. Seems like they're jumping the gun a little!

Conference teaches educators about 'whiteness in schools'
These commentators make quite a few unacknowledged verbal flubs, but looking beyond that I must strongly object to the infusion of political advocacy into the classroom. "White privilege" is a term made up by agenda-driven ideologues which has nothing to do with reality. The truth is that there are very few actual racists left in the USA at this time. Training kids to see racism where there is no racism is a very bad idea.
