Here's a different and more complete perspective on this story. The mainstream media presented a very one-sided version of the facts. Although I don't think that the men who wound up shooting the guy should have confronted him in the first place, according to Georgia law, they were within their rights at every step of the interaction. It would have been better if these guys just snapped a few pictures of the guy on their cell phones for identification purposes and allowed law enforcement to follow up on the situation.

This is just so typical of mainstream media news! It's ridiculous! They should have presented the full story to begin with instead of painting this guy as an innocent jogger. Although I disagree with the way the guys who shot the "jogger" handled the situation, it is not clear that they did anything illegal. Like you say they should not have been so assertive. It would have been better if they just followed the guy and got info for law enforcement. That being said, I ain't shedding no tears for the scumbag. I just think it would have been better for things not to work out as they did. But more importantly, I'm sick of mainstream media news presenting one-sided versions of situations like this.

BoraxBill: And that's exactly why so many people don't trust the news media. Instead of informing us of what happened, they go out of their way to present a story so as to persuade us to accept a certain perspective on the story. If it were subtle people probably wouldn't complain, but it's so blatantly obvious and ham-handed that it's hard to have even an ounce of respect for the news media. Just give us the facts and allow us to decide for ourselves how we feel about the situation being described!

Does anyone else find it at least a little bit ironic that Ahmaud Arbery rhymes with Armed Robbery?

A Jogger's Tale
Apparently the word "jogger" has been conflated with the n-word on 4chan. A few different organizations claim that "jogger" is a new code word being used by racists. Sounds like the typical obsessive BS to me, but the big issue is how the media tried to sell the Arbery case as an unprovoked murder. The details don't support that narrative. Anyone who watches the video can easily see that Arbery lunges towards the guy with the gun before he gets shot.

Sudden Impact - Go ahead, make my day - Clint Eastwood as Harry Callahan
Arbery definitely made someone's day, but the fallout has turned into a huge hassle for the McMichaels. I'm not saying that they were in the right for chasing down a guy with a criminal record who was observed entering private property and acting suspiciously, but it's definitely the case that if Arbery hadn't attacked McMichael, that he would not have been shot. It's really stupid to attack someone aiming a loaded weapon at you, especially if the person knows how to use the weapon. If McMichael had not shot Arbery, then Arbery would have wrestled the gun away from McMichael and shot McMichael. The only person who clearly broke the law in this situation was Arbery and he paid dearly for his bad judgement.

Good Samaritan helped police catch suspects after series of robberies in Arlington
I'd say that McMichael should also be considered a good Samaritan and not treated like a criminal. McMichael was a retired sheriff. He knew what he was doing and he did the right thing.

Ahmaud Arbery Was Confronted by Cops in 2017
Why is it not surprising that Arbery had previous run-ins with the law?

Ohio Declares Racism a Public Health Crises Because 33% of COVID-19 Victims Are Black
There are two highly likely reasons that explain this disproportionate infection rate:
A) Behaviors which facilitate the infection (dysfunctional communities which fail to follow advice)
B) Critical genetic differences at the cellular level which make the body more vulnerable to the virus
Hypothesis A is more likely than hypothesis B, but both are possible.
Other explanations are just desperate attempts to avoid the truth of the matter.

There's a lot of misinformation out there on all sides of an issue. When some views are censored, but others are not then it seems that some misinformation is being allowed and other information is being suppressed. It's better to not censor any of it and allow people to generate response videos to the stuff they see as crazy. This results in increased public discourse, which is what social media platforms are supposed to promote in the first place! It may be a lot of BS to wade through, but it's better than the alternative of suppressing unpopular views.
