mrgreen: It's all just a publicity stunt. Whether the people who leak the pics are working with the celebrities or whether the celebrities are purposely baiting trolls, it's all the same result in the end. The celebrities, like you say, get to put their nude pics out there and then they get to complain that their privacy is being violated. It's just a way to get attention and nothing more!

Lawyer For Victims Of Nude Celebrity Hacks Threatens Google With $100 Million Lawsuit
Unless Google is hosting copies of the images, I don't see what this has to do with Google. Links to images shouldn't matter since all Google is providing in that case is information about where the images are located. How is Google supposed to reliable differentiate between information about the location of the images and general discussion about the images and what if we're talking about a link to a page that contains links to locations where images are stored? Ultimately this threat of a lawsuit probably has no legal basis and is just another person trying to get free publicity, but it does seem unnecessary and annoying. Hopefully Google can recover legal fees should this lawyer proceed any further with this bogus lawsuit.
So, by now you've heard about the various hacked and leaked photos of various celebrities, often in varying states of undress. You knew that legal action was going to follow, but... did anyone actually expect Google would be the initial target? Lawyer to the stars Marty Singer has sent a very angry, but legally shaky letter to Google, claiming the company is facing a $100 million (or more) lawsuit in failing to remove the photos.

Sheriff Slams EFF As 'Not Credible,' Insists ComputerCOP Isn't Malware & Would Have Stopped Columbine
Basically what this comes down to is that law enforcement across the country was tricked into distributing spyware!
:smack:
The sheriff featured in this article might be in the running for the stupidest human on the planet award!
The idea that EFF isn't credible on security issues is laugh out loud funny (and, indeed, despite attending a conference and being in a room full of people, I literally laughed out loud upon reading it). However, Blakely insists his IT people are sure the software's fine:

"We have had the key logger checked out with our IT people. They have run it on our computer system." He said. "There is no malware."

Reread that a few times. "We had the key logger checked out... there is no malware." Dude. A keylogger is malware.

Jennifer Lawrence: Nude Photo Leak A Sex Crime
Jennifer Lawrence goes WAY TOO FAR and says some things that are JUST PLAIN STOOOOOPID!!! I think this is a case of fake outrage for the sake of publicity because what she says is ridiculous. It's no big deal that people want to look at her nude body. As for the people who hacked the account, it's not nice, but it's maybe worth a misdemeanor at most if even that!

This comment puts things in reasonable perspective.
Wow jennifer lawrence just made herself look like a spoiled brat. When she says stuff like "i cant beleive the kind of world we live in" it makes me think she never had anything hard happen to in her whole life. Shes acting like someone raped her children.

'The Snappening': Hacked Snapchat users' leaked nude photos may include child porn :roll2:
Seems like a big deal being made over this. It's just a bunch of pics and some might be nude. So what? They say there's hundreds of thousands of pics, but only a very small portion of the stolen pics are likely to be nudes or anything embarrassing.
"The Snappening," a wordplay on the recent celebrity hacking scandal, hit Reddit, 4chan and other sites over the weekend with private images allegedly taken from Snapchat. The messaging app has been popular for allowing people to share pictures ("snaps") and videos that are deleted 10 seconds or less after being viewed, but some users are finding the deletion wasn't permanent.

Yeah, people figure out ways around the deletion mechanism. So fucking what?
The much larger collection of "Snappening" photos also likely includes a large amount of child pornography, as Snapchat says half of its users are between the ages of 13 and 17.

Well that might be what Snapchat thinks, but it's likely that a fair number of their users are younger than 13 despite Snapchat's policy that users must be over 13. No doubt that Snapchat realizes that young users often lie about their age. But again, so what?

CactusHugger: Sounds like whoever wrote that article did their best to write the most alarming headline they could think of. Despite the fact that some users may be underage, it isn't likely that many of them posted anything that could be considered to be truly pornographic in nature and it's even less likely that any of it got saved using any apps that work around the Snapchat automatic erase mechanism. In any case, even if someone downloaded the entire collection of pictures and some of them did happen to be illegal, prosecution would be very unlikely since it would be difficult to show that the downloader was seeking illegal images. And then there's the whole debate about how ridiculous it is that images can even be illegal in the first place, but that's another issue...

Online ads are attacking you
It sounds like sites like Twitter, Google, and Facebook had better do a better job at screening the ads that are displayed on their sites.
An especially sneaky type of hack is on the rise. Hackers can infect your computer by piggybacking on Web ads -- even on trusted websites.

Personalized hacks? I suppose with all the metadata collected by Twitter, Google, and Facebook that there would be a way to display ads containing malware to target only a certain type of person... the type of person who's likely to have lots of money, for instance.
A major concern now is that hackers are getting smarter at launching attacks that slip past security scanners -- and are customized to specifically attack you.

Extreme Porn Tiger Joke Leaves Man’s Life in Ruins
This story combines stupid laws with police incompetence. Over-reaching laws create the potential for situations like this, but there's still no excuse, even given a stupid law regarding "extreme" porn, for failing to properly investigate the situation before sending the case to court. This story also underscores the fundamental flaw of a law penalizing a person for a file stored on his or her computer. Such files can easily be put there by someone else or wind up stored on the computer without the user's knowledge.

Hack Check: How 'Russian hacker' became global brand
The info provided in this clip isn't quite accurate although it's not that far off. Russian hackers became famous after the fall of the Soviet Union. During that time the Russian economy was in bad shape and there were lots of highly skilled people without jobs and so they turned to hacking. After about 2002 the Russian economy improved greatly and that's when Chinese hackers took over the top spot. Although the Chinese economy is huge, people in China don't enjoy a very high standard of living.
